This listing includes the complete Aircast Cryo/Cuff system: elbow cuff and insulated cooler jug. No additional components are required for use.
The Aircast Cryo/Cuff System delivers simultaneous cold and compression to the elbow — a combination that is more effective at reducing post-injury and post-surgical swelling and pain than cold alone. The insulated cooler jug holds up to 4 liters of ice water and connects to the elbow cuff via tubing, circulating cold water through the cuff at a consistent temperature for the duration of the therapy session. The compression provided by the cuff works alongside the cold to further limit fluid accumulation in the joint and surrounding tissue. This complete system includes the adult elbow cuff and the insulated cooler jug — everything needed to begin cold compression therapy immediately.
Why is simultaneous cold and compression more effective than cold alone?
Cold therapy alone reduces pain and swelling by constricting blood vessels and slowing nerve conduction. Compression adds a mechanical component that directly limits the space available for fluid to accumulate in the joint and surrounding tissue, working alongside the vascular constriction caused by cold to more aggressively control swelling. Research on post-surgical and post-injury recovery consistently shows that combined cold and compression therapy produces greater reductions in swelling and pain, and faster return to function, compared to cold therapy alone. The Aircast Cryo/Cuff system is specifically designed to deliver both simultaneously through the same cuff.
How do I use the system?
Fill the insulated cooler jug with ice and water, connect the tubing between the jug and the elbow cuff, and elevate the jug above the level of the elbow to allow gravity to circulate cold water through the cuff. The cold water flows from the jug through the cuff and back, maintaining consistent cold temperature throughout the therapy session. The cuff's compression is applied when it is wrapped and secured around the elbow. Follow the instructions included with the system for the specific setup procedure, recommended therapy duration, and frequency of use. Consult your healthcare provider or physical therapist for guidance on the appropriate protocol for your specific condition.
How long does the ice last in the cooler jug?
The insulated cooler jug is designed to maintain ice for an extended therapy session. The duration depends on the ambient temperature, the ratio of ice to water in the jug, and how frequently the system is used. For most therapy sessions, a full jug of ice water provides adequate cold for the recommended treatment duration. Refill with fresh ice and water between sessions as needed. The insulated construction of the jug significantly extends the useful life of the ice compared to a non-insulated container.
Can I purchase replacement cuffs for this system?
Yes. Aircast elbow cuffs are available separately as replacement parts for the Cryo/Cuff system. If the cuff wears out or is damaged, you can replace it without purchasing a new complete system. Replacement cuffs for other body areas — including the hand/wrist, back/hip/rib, knee, and shoulder — are also available and compatible with the same Aircast cooler jug, making the system adaptable for multi-area cold compression therapy with a single cooler unit.
