Six hundred pounds of rated capacity in a cane that weighs just 1.3 lbs. The SkyMed Bariatric Aluminum Walking Cane is built for users who need heavy-duty weight support without the bulk and heaviness of a steel cane. High-quality aluminum construction delivers the strength required for bariatric use while keeping the cane light enough for comfortable all-day handling. The height adjusts from 30" to 40" to accommodate a wide range of user heights, and the comfortable foam hand grip reduces hand fatigue during extended use. A removable wrist strap adds security, and the pre-installed 1" non-slip rubber tip provides stable traction on most surfaces. Available in three colors: Slate Gray, Bronze, and Purple.
Why choose aluminum over steel for a bariatric cane?
Steel canes are strong but heavy — a steel bariatric cane can weigh 3–4 lbs or more, which adds up quickly during a full day of use and can contribute to arm and shoulder fatigue. Aluminum provides comparable strength for weight-bearing applications at roughly half the weight, making it significantly easier to handle, carry, and maneuver throughout the day. This cane delivers 600 lb rated capacity at just 1.3 lbs — a meaningful difference for daily users.
How do I set the correct cane height?
Stand upright in your normal walking shoes and let your arms hang naturally at your sides. The top of the cane handle should align with your wrist crease. At this height, your elbow will have a slight bend (approximately 15–20°) when holding the cane — the correct position for efficient weight transfer and comfortable use. This cane adjusts from 30" to 40" to accommodate most adult heights.
Can I replace the rubber tip when it wears out?
Yes. The 1" rubber tip is a standard size and is replaceable. Cane tips wear down with regular use and should be inspected periodically — a worn or cracked tip reduces traction and increases the risk of slipping. Replacement 1" cane tips are widely available at medical supply and hardware stores.
Does the wrist strap need to be used?
The wrist strap is removable and optional. It is designed to loop around the wrist to prevent the cane from dropping if the user loses their grip. Some users find it adds security and confidence, particularly on uneven terrain or during transfers. Others prefer to use the cane without it — remove it if it interferes with your grip or comfort.
