A secure fit for larger users, without the hassle. This 60" bariatric wheelchair seat belt provides comfortable positioning and fall prevention for users who need an extended belt length. At 60 inches, it accommodates waist sizes up to 60" and installs quickly onto most standard wheelchairs by simply loosening two screws on the rear of the seat — no special tools required.
Will this belt fit my wheelchair?
This belt is designed to be compatible with Drive Medical wheelchairs and most standard wheelchair frames that use a two-screw rear seat attachment point. The installation method — loosening two screws on the rear of the seat — is a common mounting system across many standard wheelchair brands. If your wheelchair uses a different attachment system (such as side-mount brackets or a frame-loop design), confirm compatibility before purchasing. If you are unsure, check your wheelchair’s manual or contact the manufacturer.
Why does a bariatric user need a longer seat belt?
Standard wheelchair seat belts are typically 42–48" in length, which is insufficient for users with larger waist circumferences. A belt that is too short cannot be fastened safely, or may be fastened too tightly, causing discomfort and pressure. This 60" belt provides the additional length needed to fit comfortably and securely around larger users while still providing effective positioning and fall prevention.
Is a wheelchair seat belt the same as a lap belt or positioning belt?
Yes — wheelchair seat belts, lap belts, and positioning belts all refer to the same type of device: a strap that secures across the user’s lap to prevent forward sliding and reduce fall risk during seated use. They are not restraints and should not be used to restrict a user against their will. Their purpose is to provide postural support and positioning assistance for users who benefit from it.
How do I install this seat belt?
Loosen the two screws located on the rear underside of the wheelchair seat. Thread the belt attachment ends under the seat and position them at the desired angle across the lap. Retighten the screws to secure the belt in place. The belt should sit comfortably across the user’s lap — snug enough to provide positioning support but not so tight as to cause pressure or restrict circulation. If you are unsure of the correct positioning, consult an occupational therapist or the wheelchair manufacturer.
