Ideal For

The Blue Jay Reacher Grabber is well suited for occupational therapists recommending reaching aids for patients with hip precautions, reduced forward reach, or movement restrictions following orthopedic procedures, with multiple lengths and configurations available to match the user's functional needs. Home health aides and caregivers who assist patients with retrieving dropped items or accessing objects on high shelves will find the rotating jaw and magnetic tip practical features for a range of household retrieval tasks without requiring patient bending or assistance. Users who travel or use a wheelchair and need a reacher that stores compactly will find the folding 32-inch model (BJ100153) a convenient option that collapses to approximately half its length for storage in a bag or wheelchair pouch. Facilities and DME suppliers who stock reachers in quantity will find the 2-pack (BJ100154) a cost-effective option for the 32-inch length suitable for patient rooms, discharge kits, or therapy program inventory.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which length should I choose, 26 inch or 32 inch?
The 26-inch reacher is well-suited for most seated tasks such as picking items up from the floor while sitting in a chair, reaching across a table, or retrieving items from low shelves. The 32-inch reacher provides more reach for taller users, for picking items up from the floor while standing, or for reaching higher shelves. If you are unsure, the 32-inch length is the more versatile option for most users.

What is the folding reacher and when is it useful?
The 32-inch folding reacher (BJ100153) collapses at a midpoint hinge, reducing its length by approximately half for storage in a bag, drawer, or wheelchair pouch. The folding mechanism locks securely in the open position during use. The non-folding 32-inch reacher is slightly more rigid and may be preferred for heavier or more frequent use.

How does the magnetic tip work?
The magnetic tip attracts small ferromagnetic metal objects such as coins, keys, bottle caps, and screws without requiring jaw grip. Bring the tip close to the metal object and it will attach magnetically for retrieval. The magnetic tip works in addition to the standard jaw grip.

What types of objects can the reacher grab?
The rotating jaw can grip a wide range of everyday objects including clothing, shoes, bottles, cans, remote controls, and most household items. The jaw rotates to accommodate objects at different angles. Very small lightweight items or very heavy items may be more challenging to grip. The magnetic tip handles small metal objects that the jaw may struggle to grip.
