Keep your cane safe and stable with the right replacement tip. Drive Medical replacement cane tips are made from hard rubber for long-lasting durability, with a ridged bottom that provides reliable traction and slip resistance on indoor and outdoor surfaces. Available in four size options to fit standard canes, quad canes, and crutches — select the size that matches your cane shaft diameter. Replacing a worn tip is one of the most important safety steps for any cane user.
How do I know which size tip to order?
Measure the outer diameter of your cane or crutch shaft at the bottom where the tip attaches. The tip inner diameter should match the shaft outer diameter for a secure fit. Common sizes: most standard single-point canes use 3/4" or 7/8" tips; offset and ergonomic canes often use 7/8" or 1" tips; quad cane legs use 1/2" tips. If you have a Drive Medical cane or crutch, check the model number against the compatibility list in the size descriptions above.
How do I install a replacement cane tip?
Remove the old tip by pulling it straight off the shaft — if it is stuck, grip firmly and twist while pulling. Clean any debris from the end of the shaft. Press the new tip firmly onto the shaft, pushing straight down until it seats fully and does not wobble. The tip should fit snugly with no gap between the tip and the shaft. If the tip slides on too easily or feels loose, it may be the wrong size — a loose tip can come off during use and cause a fall.
When should I replace my cane tip?
Inspect your cane tip before each use. Replace it when the ridged tread is worn smooth, the rubber shows cracking or splitting, or the tip feels loose on the shaft. A worn tip significantly reduces traction and increases the risk of slipping — especially on smooth indoor surfaces like tile or hardwood. As a general guideline, cane tips used daily on hard surfaces should be inspected monthly and replaced every 3–6 months, or sooner if wear is visible.
Are these tips compatible with non-Drive canes?
Yes. While these tips are designed and sized to fit Drive Medical cane and crutch models, the standard shaft diameters (1/2", 3/4", 7/8", and 1") are used across most major cane and crutch manufacturers. As long as your cane shaft diameter matches the tip size you select, these tips will fit regardless of brand. Always confirm the shaft diameter before ordering.
