Putting on socks requires bending forward and reaching the foot — a motion that is difficult or impossible for individuals recovering from hip or knee surgery, those with limited flexibility, arthritis, or back pain. The Blue Jay Get Your Sock On Sock Aid eliminates the need to bend by allowing the user to put on socks while seated upright. The smooth nylon inner fabric reduces friction against the foot and heel as the sock slides on, while the terrycloth exterior grips the sock and holds it in position on the aid during application. The deluxe flexible plastic inner core bends with the natural contours of the foot and heel for a comfortable fit. The 25-inch looped handle reduces the need to reach far down during use.
Hygiene Notice: This is a hygienic product. No returns are accepted if the package has been opened or the item has been tried on.
How do I use a sock aid?
Open the sock and slide it over the terrycloth exterior of the aid so the sock opening is at the top and the toe of the sock is at the bottom of the aid. Hold the looped handle and lower the aid to the floor in front of your foot. Slide your foot into the sock opening and push your foot down into the sock while pulling the handle upward. The nylon inner surface reduces friction so the sock slides onto the foot smoothly. Once the sock is on the foot, pull the aid out from inside the sock by continuing to pull the handle upward and toward you.
What types of socks work with this aid?
The terrycloth exterior is designed to grip and hold most standard socks including cotton, nylon, and compression socks. Thicker socks such as athletic socks and crew socks work well. Very thin dress socks or socks with very little elasticity may be more difficult to position on the aid. Compression stockings with higher mmHg ratings may require more effort to apply but can generally be used with a sock aid with practice. If you use compression stockings, a stocking donner designed specifically for compression hosiery may provide easier application.
Why is the handle 25 inches long?
The 25-inch handle length is designed to allow the user to lower the sock aid to the floor and pull it back up while seated upright without needing to bend forward. This length accommodates most seated positions and body proportions for standard chair and bed heights. Users with longer legs or who sit higher may find the handle length ideal, while users in lower seating may have some slack in the handle during use. The looped end allows the handle to be gripped at different points along its length if needed.
