A complete Sprague-Rappaport stethoscope kit with everything needed for multi-patient, multi-application auscultation. The 22" dual-tube design delivers clear acoustic performance across a full range of clinical uses, and the five-in-one interchangeable chest piece system gives clinicians the flexibility to switch between diaphragms and bells for different patient populations and assessment needs — all with a single stethoscope. The kit includes 5 interchangeable chest pieces: 2 diaphragms and 3 bells of varying sizes. Available in 5 colors: Black, Red, Purple, Orange, and Blue.
What is a Sprague-Rappaport stethoscope and how is it different from a single-head stethoscope?
A Sprague-Rappaport stethoscope uses a dual-tube design and a modular, interchangeable chest piece system with separate diaphragms and bells that snap on and off. This gives the clinician the ability to use different chest piece sizes and types for different patient populations — adult, pediatric, and infant — with a single instrument. A standard single-head stethoscope has a fixed chest piece with a built-in diaphragm and bell. The Sprague-Rappaport is preferred in clinical settings where versatility across patient types is needed.
What is the difference between a diaphragm and a bell?
The diaphragm is the flat, larger chest piece used to hear high-frequency sounds — normal heart sounds, breath sounds, and bowel sounds. The bell is the smaller, cup-shaped chest piece used to hear low-frequency sounds — such as certain heart murmurs and bruits. A Sprague-Rappaport kit with multiple diaphragms and bells allows the clinician to select the appropriate chest piece for the specific assessment being performed and the size of the patient.
Why does this kit include 3 bells of different sizes?
Different bell sizes are optimized for different patient sizes. A larger bell is appropriate for adult patients, a medium bell for pediatric patients, and a small bell for neonatal or infant patients. Having all three sizes in a single kit allows one stethoscope to be used across a full range of patient populations without needing separate instruments.
How do I switch between chest pieces?
The chest pieces on a Sprague-Rappaport stethoscope snap on and off the stem of the stethoscope. To switch, firmly pull the current chest piece straight off the stem and press the desired replacement onto the stem until it clicks securely into place. Ensure the chest piece is fully seated before use to maintain an acoustic seal and prevent sound leakage.
