A full-featured economy wheelchair with elevating leg rests for users who require lower limb elevation during seated use. The powder-coated silver-vein steel frame supports K1/K2 classification with a dual axle design, removable desk arms for easy transfers and desk access, and swing-away elevating leg rests with tool-free adjustable length riggings. Urethane tires on composite wheels provide low-maintenance durability, and 8" front casters adjust in 3 positions for smooth maneuverability. Push-to-lock brakes, padded armrests, a backrest carry pocket, and embossed vinyl upholstery complete the package. 3-year limited warranty.
What are elevating leg rests and when are they needed?
Elevating leg rests (ELRs) are footrest assemblies that can be raised to elevate the lower legs above the standard horizontal position. They are indicated for users who need to reduce lower limb edema (swelling), improve circulation, manage post-surgical swelling after knee or hip procedures, or accommodate conditions such as lymphedema or deep vein thrombosis where leg elevation is clinically recommended. Unlike standard swing-away footrests, ELRs include a calf pad and an adjustable elevation mechanism. The leg rests on this chair are tool-free adjustable, allowing the elevation angle to be set without tools.
How do the removable desk arms work?
Desk arms are shorter than full-length arms, leaving a gap at the front of the armrest that allows the user to pull up closer to a desk, table, or counter without the armrest getting in the way. On this wheelchair, the desk arms are fully removable — they detach from the frame to allow a completely clear side transfer from a bed, toilet, or car seat without the armrest blocking the transfer path. To remove, lift the arm upward and out of the mounting bracket. Reattach by sliding the arm back into the bracket until it locks in place.
What does the dual axle design allow?
A dual axle wheelchair has two sets of rear wheel mounting positions on the frame — a higher and a lower position. This allows the seat-to-floor height to be adjusted by moving the rear wheels between axle positions, accommodating users of different heights or those who use their feet to assist with propulsion (hemi-height users). The seat-to-floor height on this chair adjusts from 17.5" to 19.5" depending on the axle position selected, making it suitable for a wider range of users without requiring a separate hemi-height model.
How does this chair differ from the standard economy wheelchair without elevating leg rests?
This model (10965P) includes swing-away elevating leg rests instead of standard swing-away footrests. The ELRs add the ability to elevate the lower legs above horizontal, which is not possible with standard footrests. The overall length with riggings is longer (42" vs 33") due to the extended ELR assembly, which requires more space in front of the chair. If lower limb elevation is not clinically indicated, the standard economy wheelchair with swing-away footrests is a more compact option. If elevation is needed, this model provides that capability at an economy price point.
