The Zero-G Heel Suspension Boot is designed to eliminate pressure and friction on the heel, preventing and providing relief from pressure ulcers. The extended and cushioned design floats the heel over an air cavity for zero pressure contact while allowing air circulation to aid the healing of existing ulcers. Super-soft velvet cloth protects thin, fragile skin from tears caused by trauma, reducing friction and shear. Foam cushioned sides protect the lateral and medial malleoli, while the anti-foot-drop feature controls dorsal flexion. A removable gel pack may be used to further reduce pressure beneath the ankle. Padded adjustable closure allows easy application and removal. Light blue. Launderable. Medium size (width 4).
This heel suspension boot is well suited for bedridden patients in hospitals, nursing homes, and home care settings who are at risk for heel pressure ulcers due to prolonged immobility and need a boot that completely offloads the heel from the mattress surface. It is a practical choice for wound care nurses and certified wound specialists managing patients with existing Stage I–II heel pressure injuries who need a suspension boot that provides zero pressure contact while allowing air circulation to support wound healing. Occupational therapists and physical therapists working with post-surgical or neurologically impaired patients who are at risk for foot drop will find the anti-foot-drop feature useful for maintaining proper ankle positioning during periods of bed rest. The medium size (width 4) is appropriate for average adult foot widths — the large size (SKU 1834C) is available for wider or bariatric patients.
How does the air cavity suspension work?
The boot is constructed with an extended, cushioned design that positions the heel over an open air cavity rather than resting on a foam or gel surface. This completely offloads the heel from any contact pressure, which is the most effective method for preventing and treating heel pressure ulcers. The air cavity also allows passive air circulation around the heel to support skin integrity and wound healing.
What does the removable gel pack do?
The gel pack can be inserted beneath the ankle area to further reduce pressure on the ankle and surrounding bony prominences. It can be removed when not needed or when the boot is being laundered. The gel pack provides an additional layer of pressure redistribution for patients with particularly fragile skin or existing ankle wounds.
What does the anti-foot-drop feature do?
The anti-foot-drop feature controls dorsal flexion — it maintains the foot in a neutral or slightly dorsiflexed position to prevent the foot from dropping into plantarflexion during prolonged bed rest. Foot drop can develop when the ankle is held in a plantarflexed position for extended periods, leading to contracture and functional impairment. The boot’s design helps maintain proper ankle alignment during immobility.
How do I launder the boot?
Remove the gel pack before laundering. Machine wash on a gentle cycle with mild detergent and allow to air dry completely before reuse. Do not machine dry, as heat may damage the foam and velvet materials. Follow your facility’s infection control guidelines for laundering shared patient equipment.
