Get dressed independently — without bending, twisting, or asking for help. This 24" dressing aid stick combines a smooth rounded S-hook for pulling on and adjusting clothing with a built-in shoehorn for putting on shoes — all in one lightweight, easy-to-use tool. The extended 24" reach eliminates painful bending and stretching for individuals with limited mobility, post-surgery restrictions, arthritis, or back pain. The soft foam-covered handle provides a comfortable, secure grip during use. Lightweight at just 1 lb. Ready to use right out of the package.
The extended 24" handle brings clothing within easy reach without bending or twisting. Use the smooth S-hook to grab shirts, pants, jackets, and undergarments and guide them onto the body. Flip the tool over to use the built-in shoehorn for putting on shoes without bending down. The ergonomic foam grip provides comfort and control throughout the dressing process.
What types of clothing can I use this dressing aid with?
The smooth rounded S-hook is designed to grab and guide most types of clothing without snagging or damaging fabric. It works well with shirts, pants, jackets, undergarments, and socks — hooking onto waistbands, belt loops, collars, and sleeve openings to pull garments up, down, or into position. It can also be used to retrieve items dropped on the floor without bending. Delicate fabrics with loose weaves or embellishments may require more care to avoid catching on the hook — use a gentle touch with fine or fragile garments.
How do I use the shoehorn end?
Flip the dressing stick over so the shoehorn end faces down. Place the shoehorn inside the back of the shoe at the heel opening, then slide your foot into the shoe while the shoehorn guides the heel in smoothly without collapsing the shoe’s back counter. The 24" length allows you to do this while standing or seated without bending forward. This is particularly useful after hip or knee surgery when bending past 90 degrees is restricted, or for anyone who has difficulty reaching their feet.
Is this dressing aid recommended after hip replacement surgery?
Yes. A dressing aid stick is one of the standard adaptive equipment items recommended by occupational therapists for patients recovering from hip replacement surgery. Hip precautions after total hip replacement typically restrict bending past 90 degrees, crossing the legs, and twisting — all of which are required for normal dressing. The 24" dressing stick allows patients to pull on pants, socks, and shoes and use the shoehorn without violating hip precautions. Your occupational therapist will demonstrate the correct technique for using a dressing stick as part of your post-operative rehabilitation program.
Can this be used to pick up items from the floor?
Yes. The S-hook can be used to hook onto lightweight items on the floor — such as clothing, towels, or small objects — and lift them within reach without bending. It is not designed for heavy lifting and should not be used to retrieve heavy or sharp objects. For more robust floor retrieval, a dedicated reacher/grabber tool with a gripping jaw is more effective for a wider range of objects. We carry reacher and grabber tools in our store as complementary aids to daily living products.
