Lift and position your leg without bending, reaching, or straining. The Blue Jay Get a Leg Up Leg Lifter is a 40.5" mobility aid designed for anyone who cannot safely bend or reach their legs due to surgery, injury, limited mobility, or chronic pain. The pre-opened foot loop slides easily over the foot, cast, boot, or bandaged foot, and the hand loop gives you a secure, controlled grip to lift and guide the leg into bed, out of bed, into a wheelchair, or into a car. The rigid metal rod core maintains the shape of the strap for controlled, one-handed operation — no fumbling or collapsing. Reinforced webbing construction provides durability for long-term daily use. Color: Navy. Country of Origin: China.
Why does a leg lifter need a rigid core?
A rigid metal rod core keeps the strap from going limp or collapsing when you extend it toward your foot. Without rigidity, a fabric-only strap requires two hands and significant bending to position the foot loop — defeating the purpose for post-surgical patients who cannot bend. The rigid core allows you to guide the pre-opened foot loop to your foot with one hand from a seated or lying position, making the device genuinely usable during early post-operative recovery when mobility is most limited.
Will the foot loop fit over a cast or surgical boot?
Yes. The foot loop is pre-opened and adjustable, designed to accommodate bare feet as well as casts, surgical boots, bandages, and swollen feet. This makes it particularly useful immediately following surgery when the foot and ankle may be wrapped or booted.
Is this recommended after hip or knee replacement surgery?
Leg lifters are a standard recommendation from physical therapists and occupational therapists following hip and knee replacement surgery. After hip replacement in particular, patients are typically restricted from bending the hip beyond 90° — a leg lifter allows patients to lift their leg in and out of bed and into a car without violating hip precautions. Always follow your surgeon’s and physical therapist’s specific post-operative instructions.
Can this be used for dressing assistance?
Yes. The leg lifter can assist with pulling on pants, positioning legs for sock and shoe application, and other lower-body dressing tasks that require lifting or guiding the leg. It is a common dressing aid recommended by occupational therapists for patients with limited hip flexion, knee mobility, or lower extremity strength.
