Engineered for the prevention and treatment of pressure ulcers (decubitus ulcers), this 8" low air loss alternating pressure mattress system delivers consistent, quiet pressure therapy to protect at-risk patients and support healing. The high-volume pump cycles air through 20 individual bladders every 10 minutes, continuously redistributing pressure to eliminate sustained contact points — the primary cause of pressure injuries.
Nine of the 20 bladders feature laser-cut low air loss function, allowing a gentle flow of air to keep the patient cool, reduce moisture buildup, and accelerate recovery. The vibration-isolating pump design ensures patient rest is not disrupted, while LED indicators alert caregivers when pressure drops below the safe threshold. Includes quick-fill adapter and carry bag.
What is alternating pressure therapy and how does it prevent pressure ulcers?
Alternating pressure therapy works by cyclically inflating and deflating different bladder zones across the mattress on a timed cycle (every 10 minutes in this system). This continuously shifts the patient’s weight distribution, preventing any single area of skin from sustaining prolonged pressure — the primary cause of pressure ulcer formation. Combined with low air loss airflow, it also reduces moisture and heat buildup at the skin surface.
What does “low air loss” mean?
Low air loss refers to a gentle, controlled flow of air through laser-cut perforations in 9 of the 20 bladders. This airflow keeps the patient’s skin cool and dry by reducing heat and moisture accumulation — both of which accelerate skin breakdown. Low air loss is particularly beneficial for patients with existing wounds or those at high risk for skin integrity issues.
What happens during a power outage or emergency?
The mattress is equipped with CPR release valves that fully deflate the mattress in approximately 20 seconds, allowing immediate flat-surface access for CPR or emergency repositioning. The LED pressure alert system also notifies caregivers if pressure drops below 10 mmHg during normal operation.
Is this covered by Medicare or insurance?
Alternating pressure mattress systems may be eligible for Medicare Part B reimbursement under the durable medical equipment (DME) benefit when prescribed by a physician for a qualifying condition such as pressure ulcer prevention or treatment. Coverage varies by plan and clinical indication. Consult your healthcare provider and insurance carrier for eligibility and documentation requirements.
