This listing includes the complete Aircast Cryo/Cuff system: back/hip/rib cuff, insulated cooler jug, and 42" connecting tube. No additional components are required for use.
The Aircast Cryo/Cuff System delivers simultaneous cold and compression to the back, hip, or rib area — a combination that is more effective at reducing post-injury and post-surgical swelling and pain than cold alone. The insulated cooler jug holds up to 4 liters of ice water and connects to the cuff via a 42" tube, circulating cold water through the cuff at a consistent temperature for the duration of the therapy session. The compression provided by the cuff works alongside the cold to further limit fluid accumulation in the treated area. This complete system includes the back/hip/rib cuff, insulated cooler jug, and connecting tube — everything needed to begin cold compression therapy immediately.
Why is simultaneous cold and compression more effective than cold alone?
Cold therapy alone reduces pain and swelling by constricting blood vessels and slowing nerve conduction. Compression adds a mechanical component that directly limits the space available for fluid to accumulate in the treated tissue, working alongside the vascular constriction caused by cold to more aggressively control swelling. Research on post-surgical and post-injury recovery consistently shows that combined cold and compression therapy produces greater reductions in swelling and pain, and faster return to function, compared to cold therapy alone. The Aircast Cryo/Cuff system is specifically designed to deliver both simultaneously through the same cuff.
How do I use the system?
Fill the insulated cooler jug with ice and water, connect the 42" tube between the jug and the cuff, and elevate the jug above the level of the treatment area to allow gravity to circulate cold water through the cuff. The cold water flows from the jug through the cuff and back, maintaining consistent cold temperature throughout the therapy session. The cuff's compression is applied when it is wrapped and secured around the treatment area. Follow the included manual for the specific setup procedure, recommended therapy duration, and frequency of use. Consult your healthcare provider or physical therapist for guidance on the appropriate protocol for your specific condition.
Why is the tube 42" long and does that matter?
The 42" tube length provides enough reach to position the cooler jug comfortably above the treatment area without requiring the jug to be held directly against the body. For back, hip, and rib treatment — where the user is typically lying down or reclined — the longer tube allows the jug to be placed on a nearby surface at an appropriate elevation while the cuff remains in position on the body. A shorter tube would limit the positioning options for the jug and make it more difficult to maintain the gravity-fed circulation that drives cold water through the cuff.
Can I use this cooler jug with other Aircast cuffs for different body areas?
Yes. The Aircast cooler jug is compatible with other Aircast Cryo/Cuff cuffs for different body areas — including the elbow, hand/wrist, knee, and shoulder. If you need cold compression therapy for multiple body areas, you can purchase replacement or additional cuffs for each area and use the same cooler jug with each cuff. This makes the Aircast system a cost-effective solution for multi-area cold compression therapy during a complex recovery program.
