The PMI Bath Bench with Back provides a stable, adjustable seating solution for individuals who need support during bathing. The blow-molded bench and back provide comfort and structural strength, while drainage holes in the seat surface reduce water pooling and slipping. Removable padded armrests provide comfort and added security during transfers and seated bathing. The lightweight aluminum frame is durable and corrosion-proof for long-term bathroom use. Legs are height adjustable to accommodate a range of user heights. Tool-free assembly. Ships knocked down. 300 lb weight capacity. Limited lifetime warranty.
How do I adjust the seat height?
The legs are height adjustable using push-button or pin-style adjustment mechanisms — press the button or remove the pin on each leg, slide the leg to the desired height setting, and release or reinsert the pin to lock. Adjust all four legs to the same height setting to ensure the bench sits level. The seat height adjusts from 16" to 20" to accommodate users of different heights. As a general guide, the correct seat height places the user's feet flat on the floor with the knees at approximately 90 degrees when seated.
Are the armrests removable and why does that matter?
Yes, the padded armrests are removable. Removable armrests allow the bench to be used without armrests if the user prefers, and more importantly, they allow the user to perform a lateral transfer onto the bench from a wheelchair or shower chair by removing the armrest on the transfer side. This is a critical feature for users who cannot stand to transfer and need to slide laterally onto the bench. The armrests can be reinstalled after the transfer is complete to provide support during bathing.
What does "knocked down" mean and how difficult is assembly?
Knocked down means the bench ships disassembled in a flat box rather than pre-assembled. This reduces shipping size and cost. Assembly is tool-free — the components connect using the built-in adjustment mechanisms and locking pins without requiring any tools. Most users can assemble the bench in 10 to 15 minutes following the included instructions. If you have difficulty with assembly, a caregiver or home health aide can assist.
Can this bench be used in a walk-in shower as well as a tub?
Yes. The adjustable height range of 16" to 20" accommodates both standard tub heights and walk-in shower floor levels. For tub use, position the bench so two legs are inside the tub and two are outside, with the seat spanning the tub wall — this is called a tub transfer bench configuration. For walk-in shower use, all four legs sit on the shower floor. Ensure the bench is stable and level on the shower floor surface before use, and use non-slip bath mats under the legs if the floor surface is slippery.
