Firm compression and support with a stay-in-place fit. The Blue Jay Back Support with Flexible Stays uses a criss-cross ventilated elastic panel to deliver firm, even compression across the lower back while allowing airflow to keep the wearer comfortable during extended use. Flexible stays are built into the support to eliminate rolling and provide additional structural support along the lumbar region. The hook closure system allows adjustable compression for a customized, maximum fit. Universal sizing fits waist measurements from 24" to 46". Color: Black.
What do the flexible stays do?
Flexible stays are semi-rigid vertical inserts built into the back panel of the support that provide additional structural reinforcement along the lumbar spine. They flex with the body during movement rather than remaining completely rigid, which allows a more natural range of motion while still limiting excessive bending and providing postural support. The primary function of the stays in this support is to prevent the elastic panel from rolling down or bunching during wear — a common issue with elastic-only back supports — keeping the support in the correct position throughout the day.
How do I measure for the correct size?
This support is universal sizing and fits waist measurements from 24" to 46". Measure your waist circumference at the level of your navel (belly button) using a soft measuring tape. If your measurement falls within the 24"–46" range, this support will fit. The hook closure allows you to adjust the compression level and fit within that range — tighter for more compression, looser for a more comfortable everyday fit. If your waist measurement is outside this range, a sized back support may be more appropriate.
Can I wear this support all day?
This support is designed for use during activities that place stress on the lower back — such as lifting, prolonged standing, or physical work — rather than continuous all-day wear. Wearing a back support continuously can reduce the activation of the core muscles that naturally support the spine, potentially weakening them over time. Most clinicians recommend wearing a back support during high-risk activities and removing it during rest. Follow your physician’s or physical therapist’s guidance on how long and how often to wear the support based on your specific condition.
How do I care for this back support?
Hand wash in cool water with mild detergent. Gently squeeze out excess water — do not wring or twist the elastic panel, which can distort the criss-cross structure. Lay flat or hang to air dry away from direct heat or sunlight. Do not machine wash or tumble dry, as heat and agitation can degrade the elastic and hook closure over time. Inspect the hook closure periodically for bent or missing hooks and replace the support if the closure no longer holds securely.
