How do I choose the right seat width?
Measure the widest part of the user’s hips or thighs while seated. Add approximately 1" to 2" to that measurement for comfortable clearance — the seat should be wide enough that the user can sit without the hips pressing against the armrests, but not so wide that the user cannot reach the wheels comfortably. The 16" seat fits most smaller adults, the 18" seat is the most common standard adult size, and the 20" seat accommodates larger users with a higher 350 lb weight capacity.
What is the difference between Swing-Away Footrests (SAF) and Elevating Leg Rests (ELR)?
Swing-Away Footrests pivot to the side and can be removed entirely, making it easier to get close to a bed, toilet, or car for transfers. They are the standard choice for most users. Elevating Leg Rests (ELR) allow the leg rest to be raised to a horizontal or near-horizontal position, which is beneficial for users with lower leg edema, post-surgical swelling, or conditions that require leg elevation during sitting. ELR is available on the 16" seat width variant only (SKU 10965L).
What does “removable desk arms” mean?
Desk arms are armrests that are cut away at the front, allowing the wheelchair to slide closer under a desk, table, or countertop than full-length armrests would allow. “Removable” means the armrests can be detached from the wheelchair frame entirely — which is useful during lateral transfers from the wheelchair to a bed, toilet, or car seat, where the armrest would otherwise be in the way. Removable desk arms combine both benefits in a single armrest design.
What does the dual axle design mean?
The dual axle design means the rear wheels can be mounted in two different axle positions on the frame, allowing the seat-to-floor height to be adjusted between 17.5" and 19.5". This accommodates users of different heights and allows the footrest height to be optimized for proper leg positioning. It also supports K1/K2 HCPCS classification, which may be relevant for insurance reimbursement purposes — consult your physician or DME supplier for guidance on coverage eligibility.
