A clinical staple for wound care, dressing changes, and general patient care. These sterile 2" x 2" gauze sponges feature a 12-ply construction for high absorbency and reliable performance as a primary or secondary wound dressing. Each sponge is individually packaged in a sterile pouch — one sponge per pouch — maintaining sterility until the moment of use. The box of 100 is packed in a convenient dispenser box for easy, one-handed access during procedures. A dependable, cost-effective choice for hospitals, clinics, home health agencies, and first aid applications.
What does 12-ply mean for gauze sponges?
"Ply" refers to the number of layers of gauze woven together in the sponge. A 12-ply sponge has 12 layers, making it significantly more absorbent and substantial than lower-ply options such as 4-ply or 8-ply. Higher ply counts are preferred for wounds with moderate to heavy exudate, or when additional cushioning and protection are needed.
Are these sponges suitable for direct wound contact?
Yes. These sterile gauze sponges are suitable for use as a primary dressing in direct contact with the wound, or as a secondary dressing over a primary layer. The appropriate use depends on the wound type and the clinician’s assessment. For wounds where gauze adherence is a concern, a non-adherent contact layer should be used beneath the gauze.
How does the dispenser box work?
The dispenser box is designed for convenient one-handed access during procedures. Individual sterile pouches are stacked inside the box and can be pulled out one at a time without contaminating the remaining supply — keeping the workflow clean and efficient at the bedside or procedure table.
How should unused gauze sponges be stored?
Store in a cool, dry location away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep sponges in their original packaging until use to maintain sterility. Do not use any sponge whose individual pouch is damaged, torn, or compromised.
