Entry-level grip strength training for early rehabilitation and recovery. The CanDo Hand Exercise Grips in Red (Easy, 6 lbs) are the second-lightest level in the CanDo ergonomic grip sequence — designed for patients in the early stages of hand rehabilitation who have progressed from the lightest Yellow level, or for those beginning grip strengthening with some baseline hand function. The ergonomic grip shape fits comfortably in the hand for controlled, consistent squeezing exercises, and the progressive CanDo resistance sequence provides a clear, structured path from early rehabilitation through peak performance. Sold in pairs.
How does the CanDo resistance sequence work?
The CanDo grip sequence uses color coding to indicate resistance level, with the force requirement doubling at each step — from Yellow (X-Soft, lightest) through Red (Easy, 6 lbs), Green, Blue, and Black (X-Hard, 48 lbs, heaviest). This progressive structure allows therapists and patients to advance resistance in a controlled, measurable way as grip strength improves. Red is the second level in the sequence and is appropriate for patients who have progressed from Yellow or who are beginning rehabilitation with some baseline grip function.
Should I start with Red or Yellow?
If you have very limited grip strength — such as immediately following a stroke, nerve injury, or prolonged immobilization — start with Yellow (X-Soft). If you have some baseline hand function and can comfortably squeeze a soft object, Red (Easy, 6 lbs) is an appropriate starting point. Always follow your occupational therapist’s or physical therapist’s recommendation for the correct starting level based on your strength assessment and diagnosis.
How do I use hand exercise grips correctly?
Hold one grip in each hand with the ergonomic shape fitting naturally in your palm. Squeeze the grip fully, hold for 2–3 seconds, then slowly release. Perform the number of repetitions and sets prescribed by your therapist. Avoid gripping so hard that you experience pain — some muscle fatigue is normal, but sharp or joint pain is a signal to stop and consult your therapist. Use both hands equally unless your therapist has specified unilateral training.
Can I purchase other resistance levels separately?
Yes. The CanDo hand exercise grips are available in all five resistance levels (Yellow, Red, Green, Blue, and Black) and are sold in pairs at each level. Check our store for the full CanDo grip sequence if you need a higher resistance level for progression or to build a complete progressive set.
