Nearly perfect four-season post-operative foot protection. The Darco Hi All Purpose Boot is a closed-toe post-operative boot designed to keep dressings and toes warm and dry while accommodating both bulky dressings and most fiberglass casts. The rocker sole promotes a natural gait pattern during recovery, while the square toe design acts as a bumper to protect the toes from impact. The ankle strap seats the foot firmly in the boot to reduce heel slippage and eliminate friction. A removable insole with twice the padding of standard insoles can be modified or fully removed to accommodate DARCO’s Peg Assist customizable off-loading insole system. The unique metatarsal shank under the MP joints increases support and rigidity under the forefoot. Available in X-Small through X-Large.
What makes this boot different from a standard post-op shoe?
The Darco Hi All Purpose Boot offers several features that go beyond a standard post-op shoe. The closed-toe design protects and insulates the toes and dressings in all weather conditions — standard open-toe post-op shoes leave the toes exposed. The boot accommodates both bulky dressings and most fiberglass casts, which many standard post-op shoes cannot. The metatarsal shank under the MP joints adds forefoot rigidity, the zoned outsole provides targeted traction, and the removable insole is compatible with the Darco Peg Assist off-loading system for diabetic and wound care applications.
What is the Peg Assist insole system?
The Darco Peg Assist is a customizable off-loading insole system that allows clinicians to remove individual pegs from the insole to create targeted pressure relief zones directly under specific wound or ulcer sites. When the standard removable insole is taken out of the Hi All Purpose Boot, the Peg Assist insole can be inserted in its place, converting the boot into a customizable off-loading device. This is particularly valuable in diabetic foot care and wound management where precise pressure redistribution is required.
How do I select the correct size?
Select your size based on your shoe size using the size guide above. The boot is designed to accommodate the foot with dressings or a cast in place, so it is intentionally sized with extra volume. If you are between sizes or wearing particularly bulky dressings, sizing up may provide a more comfortable fit. Note that X-Small is sized for women only. Always follow your physician’s or orthotist’s guidance on sizing when the boot is being used as part of a post-operative or wound care protocol.
How do I put on and take off the boot correctly?
Loosen the ankle strap and open the removable forefoot closure fully before putting the boot on. Slide the foot into the boot with the heel seated firmly at the back — the ankle strap then secures the foot in place to minimize heel slippage and friction during walking. Fasten the forefoot closure over the dressing or cast, then secure the ankle strap snugly without excessive tightness. To remove, release the ankle strap first, then open the forefoot closure and slide the foot out. If dressings are present, take care not to disturb them during donning and doffing.
