What body areas can be treated with the Hi-Boy whirlpool?
The Hi-Boy series is specifically designed to provide complete immersion coverage up to the back hip and shoulder areas when the patient is seated in the tank. This makes it suitable for treating the mid-back, lower back, hips, abdomen, and upper body — areas that lower-profile lo-boy or extremity whirlpools cannot reach. With the optional Adjustable Suspension Seat or Tank Top Seat, the patient can be positioned higher in the tank so that lower extremities such as the lower leg, ankle, and foot are submerged for treatment instead.
What is the difference between a stationary and a mobile whirlpool?
A stationary whirlpool is designed for permanent installation in a fixed location — it is plumbed directly into the facility’s water supply and drain system and does not move. A mobile whirlpool is mounted on a cart with wheels and can be filled and drained manually or with hoses, allowing it to be repositioned within the facility. Stationary units like this Hi-Boy are preferred for high-volume clinical settings where the whirlpool is used continuously and permanent plumbing is available. Mobile units offer flexibility for facilities where the treatment area changes or permanent plumbing is not feasible.
What optional seating accessories are available?
Whitehall offers two optional seating accessories for the Hi-Boy whirlpool: the Adjustable Suspension Seat, which suspends from the top of the tank and can be height-adjusted to position the patient at the desired immersion depth; and the Tank Top Seat, which rests on the rim of the tank and allows the patient to sit with their lower legs submerged for foot, ankle, and lower leg treatment. These accessories are ordered separately and allow the Hi-Boy to serve dual purposes — full-body immersion and lower extremity treatment — in a single unit.
What installation requirements should I plan for?
As a stationary unit, the Hi-Boy whirlpool requires permanent plumbing connections for water supply (hot and cold) and drain, as well as a dedicated electrical connection for the turbine motor. The tank should be installed on a level, structurally sound floor capable of supporting the weight of the unit when filled — 75 gallons of water weighs approximately 625 lbs in addition to the tank and patient weight. Consult a licensed plumber and electrician for installation, and verify local building and health department requirements for hydrotherapy equipment in your facility type before ordering.
