Simple, effective leg elevation for recovery and daily comfort. The Alex Orthopedic Leg Wedge is made from supportive polyurethane foam that gently elevates the legs to a therapeutic angle, helping reduce swelling in the feet, ankles, and lower legs. Leg elevation is one of the most commonly recommended interventions for edema, post-surgical recovery, varicose veins, and general lower limb fatigue — and this wedge makes it easy to maintain the correct position while resting in bed or on a couch. The removable cover is washable for easy cleaning and hygiene maintenance. At 10" in height with a 45° incline angle, it provides a comfortable elevation angle suitable for most users.
How high should I elevate my legs to reduce swelling?
The general clinical recommendation for leg elevation to reduce edema is to raise the legs above the level of the heart — typically 6" to 12" depending on the individual. This wedge provides 10" of elevation at a 45° incline, placing it within the therapeutic range for most users lying in bed or reclining on a couch. For specific elevation requirements following surgery or for a medical condition, follow your physician’s or physical therapist’s instructions.
Can I use this after knee or hip surgery?
Yes. Leg elevation wedges are commonly used during post-surgical recovery to reduce swelling and promote circulation in the operated limb. This wedge supports the leg from the calf to the heel, keeping the leg elevated in a comfortable, stable position during rest. Always follow your surgeon’s specific post-operative positioning instructions.
How do I clean the cover?
The cover is removable — unzip or remove it from the foam core and machine wash according to the care label instructions. Allow to air dry fully before replacing on the foam wedge. Do not wash the foam core itself — spot clean only if needed.
Can this wedge be used under a mattress or only on top?
This wedge is designed to be placed on top of a mattress, couch, or flat surface with the legs resting on top of it. It is not designed to be placed under a mattress. For best results, position the wedge so the highest point (10" end) supports the calf and the 45° slope angles down toward the foot of the bed.
