Standard rollators are not built for bariatric users — the frames are too narrow, the seats too small, and the weight capacities too low. The Drive Medical Oversized Bariatric Rollator is engineered specifically for heavier users, with a reinforced steel frame rated to 500 lbs, an oversized padded seat measuring 18" W x 13" D, and an overall width of 30.5" to accommodate the reinforced frame. Loop-style brakes with internal aluminum construction provide smooth, durable braking, and the handle height adjusts from 34" to 39" to fit a range of user heights. A large storage basket (21" W x 9" D x 6" H) mounts under the seat, and the tool-free removable padded backrest adds support when seated. Folds for storage and transport. Available in Blue (SKU 11053A) and Red (SKU 11053B).
What makes this rollator different from a standard rollator?
This rollator is specifically engineered for bariatric users with a 500 lb weight capacity — significantly higher than the 250–300 lb capacity of most standard rollators. The reinforced steel frame, wider overall width of 30.5", oversized seat (18" W x 13" D), and fixed 22" seat-to-floor height are all designed to accommodate larger body frames and make sitting and standing easier. Standard rollators are not rated for this weight capacity and should not be used as a substitute.
How do the loop-lock brakes work?
The loop-lock brakes are operated by squeezing the brake levers on the handles to slow or stop the rollator during use. To lock the rollator in place — for example, when sitting down or standing up — push the brake levers downward to engage the parking brake position. The internal aluminum construction of the brake mechanism provides durability and smooth operation over extended use. The brake cable is covered by a lifetime warranty.
What is the seat-to-floor height and why is it fixed at 22"?
The seat-to-floor height is the distance from the ground to the top of the seat when the rollator is in its open position. At 22", this rollator is designed to make it easier for bariatric users to sit down and stand up — a lower seat height reduces the distance the user must lower themselves when sitting and the effort required to rise when standing. The seat height is fixed rather than adjustable to maintain the structural integrity of the reinforced frame at the 500 lb weight capacity.
Does this rollator fold for transport?
Yes. The rollator folds for storage and transport. Given its reinforced steel construction and 500 lb capacity, it is heavier than standard aluminum rollators — caregiver assistance may be needed when loading it into a vehicle. Confirm the folded dimensions and weight against your vehicle's storage capacity before purchasing if transport is a primary use case.
