The Drive Prime Care Electric Hospital Bed (Model P503) is a high-performance long-term care bed designed for comfort, safety, and ease of use. With a best-in-class height range, smooth vertical lift, and a powerful 3-motor system, this bed delivers reliable functionality for homecare and professional environments.
What does the 3-motor system do?
The 3 DC motor system independently controls three functions: head elevation, knee elevation, and overall bed height (hi-lo). This allows each position to be adjusted separately and simultaneously, providing true vertical lift that keeps the bed platform level at all heights — unlike 2-motor systems that can tilt during height adjustment. The result is smoother, safer repositioning for both patient and caregiver.
What is Auto Contour and why does it matter?
Auto Contour is a feature on the eight-function hand pendant that simultaneously raises the head and adjusts the knee break in a coordinated motion. This mimics the natural contour of the body, reducing shear forces on the skin — a key factor in pressure ulcer prevention. It also improves patient comfort when moving between lying flat and a seated position.
Why is the 7.8" minimum height important?
The ultra-low 7.8" minimum height is a critical safety feature for fall-risk patients. When the bed is at its lowest position, a fall from the bed results in significantly less impact than from a standard-height bed. This is especially important for patients with dementia, high fall risk, or those who are restless during sleep. The full 30" maximum height supports caregivers during bathing, dressing, and clinical tasks without back strain.
Is this bed covered by Medicare?
Electric hospital beds may be eligible for Medicare Part B reimbursement under the durable medical equipment (DME) benefit when prescribed by a physician for a qualifying medical condition. Coverage and documentation requirements vary. Consult your healthcare provider and insurance carrier to determine eligibility before purchasing.
