This complete 4-piece hip kit includes the essential daily living aids most frequently recommended by physical therapists and occupational therapists for hip, knee, or joint surgery recovery. Designed to reduce bending, straining, and stretching when mobility is limited, this kit promotes independence and helps maintain hip precautions during rehabilitation.
Note: This item will be in stock after 6/30/26.
How is this kit different from the 5-piece hip kit?
The Blue Jay Standard Hip Kit includes 4 tools: a 26" reacher with magnetic tip, a 2-in-1 dressing aid with shoehorn, an 18" long handle bath sponge, and a sock aid. The 5-piece kit adds a separate 24" metal shoehorn and includes a longer 32" reacher. The 4-piece kit is a great choice for most post-surgical patients, while the 5-piece kit offers additional reach and a dedicated shoehorn for those who prefer separate tools.
What are hip precautions and how does this kit help?
Hip precautions are movement restrictions prescribed after hip replacement surgery to protect the new joint while it heals — typically no bending past 90 degrees, no crossing the legs, and no rotating the foot inward. Each tool in this kit is designed to help you dress, bathe, and retrieve items while staying within those restrictions, reducing the risk of dislocation during recovery.
Can the bath sponge handle be shaped to fit my needs?
Yes. The 18" plastic sponge handle can be gently bent to a custom angle using a hair dryer, allowing you to reach your lower legs, feet, and back at the angle that works best for your body and mobility level. Allow it to cool fully before use after reshaping.
Is this kit suitable for knee replacement recovery too?
Yes. While hip kits are named for hip replacement recovery, the tools are equally useful after knee replacement, back surgery, or any condition that limits bending and reaching. The reacher, sock aid, and long handle sponge are particularly helpful for knee patients who cannot bend the knee fully during early recovery.
