The ultimate hand therapy tool for rehabilitation and performance. The TheraBand Hand Xtrainer is available in four progressive resistance densities — from Beginner (Red) to Advanced Sport (Black) — providing a clear, measurable path of progress for hand, wrist, and forearm rehabilitation and strength training. The patented design features built-in recovery that supports optimal form during both flexion and extension exercises, making it a versatile replacement for putty and traditional hand extensors. Compatible with hot and cold therapy for added comfort, latex-free, and easy to clean between patients for professional in-clinic use.
Which resistance level should I start with?
If you are in early rehabilitation or have limited hand strength, start with Red (Beginner). If you have some baseline hand strength and are in mid-stage rehabilitation, Green (Intermediate) is a good starting point. Blue (Advanced) and Black (Advanced Sport) are appropriate for patients in late-stage rehabilitation or athletes with established grip strength. Always follow your occupational therapist’s or physical therapist’s recommendation for the appropriate starting level based on your specific condition and strength assessment.
How does the Hand Xtrainer replace putty and hand extensors?
Traditional therapy putty requires the user to squeeze and knead it for flexion exercises, but does not provide resistance for extension (opening the hand). Standard hand extensors provide extension resistance but not flexion. The TheraBand Hand Xtrainer’s patented design with built-in recovery provides resistance for both flexion and extension in a single device — making it a more versatile and economical alternative that covers a broader range of hand therapy exercises without needing multiple tools.
Can I use this with hot or cold therapy?
Yes. The TheraBand Hand Xtrainer is compatible with both heat and cold therapy. Applying heat before use can help warm up stiff joints and improve tissue extensibility, making exercises more comfortable and effective. Applying cold after exercise can help reduce post-exercise inflammation and soreness. Follow your therapist’s guidance on whether heat, cold, or contrast therapy is appropriate for your specific condition before and after exercise sessions.
Is this product latex-free?
Yes. The TheraBand Hand Xtrainer is made with a latex-free formula, making it safe for patients and clinicians with latex allergies or sensitivities. This also makes it suitable for use in clinical environments where latex-free protocols are required.
