Traditional moleskin padding reduces pressure but does not address shear — the horizontal friction force that causes blisters and skin breakdown. Visco-GEL Moleskin is a self-adhesive silicone gel padding that absorbs both pressure and shear simultaneously, providing more complete protection than foam or fabric moleskin alternatives. The gel conforms to any foot contour, cushioning and protecting against corns, calluses, bunions, blisters, and other friction-related irritations. Self-adhesive backing holds the pad in place during wear. Washable and reusable — the self-adhesive properties are maintained even after washing. Sheet size 2.5" x 3". Pack of 2.
What is shear and why does it matter for blister prevention?
Pressure is the downward force on the skin from body weight and shoe contact. Shear is the horizontal sliding force between the skin and the shoe surface during movement — the force that causes the skin layers to slide against each other and form blisters. Most foam and fabric padding materials reduce pressure but do not significantly reduce shear. Silicone gel absorbs and dissipates shear forces by deforming horizontally when friction is applied, which is why gel padding is more effective at blister prevention than foam alternatives in high-friction areas.
How do I apply the Visco-GEL Moleskin?
Clean and dry the skin area where the pad will be applied. Peel the backing from the self-adhesive side of the pad and press firmly onto the skin over the affected area. The pad can also be applied to the inside of the shoe over the area that contacts the irritated skin. The gel conforms to the contour of the application surface. Trim the pad with scissors if needed to fit a specific area. For foot application, apply before putting on socks and shoes.
How do I wash and reuse the pad?
Rinse the pad with mild soap and warm water, gently rub to remove skin oils and debris, and allow to air dry completely. Once dry, the self-adhesive surface restores its tack and the pad can be reapplied. Avoid paper towels or lint-producing cloths during drying, which can leave fibers on the adhesive surface. Replace the pad when the gel is torn, the adhesive no longer holds, or the pad no longer provides adequate cushioning.
Can the pad be cut to fit a specific area?
Yes. The 2.5" x 3" sheet can be trimmed with scissors to fit smaller or irregularly shaped areas such as a specific corn, bunion prominence, or blister hot spot. Cut the pad to the desired shape before removing the backing and applying. The cut edges of the gel will remain intact and will not fray or unravel like fabric moleskin.
