Immediate cooling relief for minor burns — without lidocaine. Water Jel Cool Jel uses the same high-quality gel formula as Burn Jel, minus the lidocaine, making it suitable for situations where a topical anesthetic is not indicated or desired. The cooling formula comforts and moisturizes the injured area on contact while forming a protective barrier that guards against contaminants and irritants that may delay healing. The 4 oz squeeze bottle allows for easy, controlled application directly to the burn site. Ideal for first aid kits, emergency response, and clinical settings.
What is the difference between Cool Jel and Burn Jel?
Both Cool Jel and Burn Jel are Water Jel brand burn relief gels with the same base cooling formula. The key difference is that Burn Jel contains lidocaine, a topical anesthetic that numbs the burn area to reduce pain, while Cool Jel does not contain lidocaine. Cool Jel is appropriate when a topical anesthetic is not indicated — for example, in situations where the patient’s pain response needs to be monitored, where lidocaine sensitivity is a concern, or where regulatory or protocol requirements restrict the use of anesthetic agents in the field. Both products cool, soothe, and form a protective barrier over the burn.
What types of burns is this product appropriate for?
Cool Jel is intended for use on minor burns — typically first-degree burns (superficial burns affecting only the outer layer of skin) characterized by redness, pain, and minor swelling without blistering. It may also be used as an initial cooling measure on second-degree burns (partial thickness) while awaiting further medical evaluation. It is not a substitute for professional medical treatment of serious burns. Do not apply to open wounds, deep burns, or burns covering a large body surface area — seek emergency medical care immediately for serious burns.
How do I apply Cool Jel to a burn?
Squeeze the gel directly from the bottle onto the affected area, applying a generous layer to cover the burn site. The gel will begin cooling on contact. Do not rub the gel into the skin — allow it to sit on the surface to maintain the cooling effect and protective barrier. For first aid use, apply as soon as possible after the burn occurs. If the burn is on a limb, the area can be loosely covered with a sterile dressing over the gel. Follow your facility’s first aid protocols or the product label instructions for specific guidance.
Does this product expire?
Yes. Like all topical first aid products, Cool Jel has an expiration date printed on the packaging. Check the expiration date before use and replace any expired product in your first aid kit. Expired gel may lose effectiveness and should not be used on patients. When stocking first aid kits, rotate stock regularly to ensure the gel in use is within its expiration date.
